Civil Engineering

What is this course about?
Learn the design, construction, and maintenance of public works such as bridges,roads, canals, damsbuildings. You will be taught how to construct, renovate, repair, maintain, and upgrade infrastructures as well as develop solutions for urban areas to prosper and grow. and

How long is this course?

Approximately 3 to 4 years to complete A bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.

What skills and characteristics do I need in this field?

You should have a natural inclination towards mathematics and physics to be in this field. You should also have an eye for design to design civil engineering systems and processes that meet the demands of your profession. Communications skills and team work are also important as you may be required to work, both as an individual or in a group. The ability to understand the impact of engineering on society and humanity is also deemed essential.

Where do I go after my diploma/degree?

You can pursue a postgraduate degree in a specific major such as Master of Construction Engineering, Master of Geomatic Engineering, Master of Highway & Pavement Engineering, and Master of Civil-Hydraulics & Hydrology. Postgraduate studies are conducted in two modes, coursework, in which you are required to attend lectures and complete assignments, and research, in which you are required to undertake a research project under a supervisor.

You can also start applying to become a member of the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) to be able to find employment as an engineer.

What can I do with a Civil Engineering degree?

You can find employment with urban and rural development industries, contractors, engineering firms, and state authorities as a construction manager, consultant, designer, planner and researcher. Your jobscope will include designing buildings and facilities, supervising constructions and managing large scale projects.
